Lazy Laos – Luang Prabang, Laos

We arrived in Luang Prabang a couple of days later and got settled into our guesthouse (which, once again, was amazing). Free bananas, coffee, and water? Doesn’t take much to buy my love!

It was a beautiful town with a cool vibe (kindof like a super miniature version of Chiang Mai).

Things move slow in Laos, a lot slower than Thailand, and we welcomed the relaxed feel in our second country. Actually, we learned to embrace it or it would drive you crazy! For example, when they say it will take 4 hours to get somewhere – just be ready for it to be 9 hours.  When they say your bus transfer is coming at 10am – just be ready for it to be like 1pm.  What we learned was to have three things always on you: extra food, water and money. Also, just because they say there is an ATM where you are going – doesn’t always mean there will be an ATM. You don’t want to learn that the hard way.

With that said, here are the Do’s and Don’ts of Laos.

We hung out in Luang Prabang for 3 days and chilled at a little place called Utopia. There we even met up with Alex White from Chilliwack there! Seriously – super small world!

For Valentine’s Day, while I would normally have been throwing back a couple bottles of vino on my own, I celebrated the awesomeness of life with my fellow single companion, Miss Pam Dhillon. Did I mention, we were making single and 30 awesome? Anyway, in a jungle restaurant, we splurged on a bottle of Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon and ate the best burger of my life made with water buffalo. Seriously, it was amazing. We had it again the next night, as well as, spaghetti in a coconut milk tomato sauce (sounds weird but it was INCREDIBLE).

We then repacked and took off down to Paske where we joined up with the tour group Green Discovery to zip through the jungle.
